Dog with missing man found

THE DOG that was with missing Brunswick Heads man Kevin Kirk, 70, when he disappeared a week ago has been found.

The Staffordshire-cross, named Cimmi, was found in the Ocean Shores area at about 1pm on Friday.

After finding the dog police conducted a search of the area, but Mr Kirk could not be found.

The 70-year-old was last seen walking the friend’s dog through the Ferry Reserve Caravan Park in Brunswick Head at 9.30am last Monday.

Mr Kirk was reported missing to police on Wednesday and patrols of the area, and his regular walking routes, were conducted.

Police say the man suffers from a serious illness.

Teams of searchers from the Tweed-Byron Area Command, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, Mullumbimby SES and Brunswick Heads Surf Life Saving Club have conducted land, sea and air searches for him.

The search has now been called off pending further information, Inspector Shane Diehm said.

The dog is back with its owners.
