Dodgers home in a thriller

DODGERS Devils showed great composure to overcome Workers Condors as the 2013 FNC Softball season ended in thrilling fashion.

The Dodgers took the Division One grand final 4-3 in a cracking match only decided at the bottom of the 7th innings at Lismore's Albert Park.

Saturday's contest was a fitting end to the season, with both teams producing a high-quality performance that kept the crowd captivated until the very last pitch.

Condors batted first and jumped out of the box with a three-bagger to Monique McCoy setting up their first run hit in by Sam Green.

Dodgers closed the innings and failed to penetrate through the field in their first dig due to a solid pitching effort by Condor's Callie Windsor.

The second saw Workers on the assault again with Tina Austen over the plate with a single hit to Belinda Stratford through right-field. With a 2-nil lead, Workers look set to control the game, but Dodgers dug deep in the third and scored three runs.

Both teams produced clinical defence to defend their position until Workers rose at the top of the sixth dig to tie up the game at 3-all when a safe hit by Sam Green to left field sent Laura Knight over the plate.

Dodgers went on the attack again with Kym Wraight moving batters around, but a K2 by Windsor ended the dig and set up a 7th innings showdown.

In a last-ditch effort, Workers' top order batters were kept in check by Dodgers pitcher Sonya Pope and limited by solid fielding, including a great catch by Jo O'Neill at right field.

Dodgers star Kelly Ingram then led off with a safe hit to left field and was then advanced to second base and scoring position by Atkinson with a safe hit to third. A batting effort by Kayleen Shailes to hit safely past second base saw Ingram run through third and home to seal the win.

While pitching was a stand-out by both Pope and Windsor throughout the match, Workers' Laura Knight and Ash Knight each took a brilliant catch in the outfield in the latter stages.

The result means Dodgers Devils were the minor and major premierships winners for the season without suffering a loss.
