Doctor charged with rape

A GOONELLABAH GP has been charged with rape and assault with act of indecency.

The charges against Dr Prasanna Mishra, of Alstonville, were mentioned in Lismore Local Court on Monday.

According to court documents, they relate to events that allegedly took place in November 2008 at Goonellabah.

Police allege 40-year-old Mishra 'put her (the alleged victim's) hand on his penis and masturbated himself'.

He is also alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse without consent.

Mishra was granted bail on condition he reside at his home in Alstonville, make no contact with the alleged victim, and make no attempts to travel overseas.

He did not want to comment when The Northern Star approached him yesterday.

“I am unable to comment at this stage,” he said.

His employer, Goonellabah Medical Centre, also declined to comment.

“We're unable to comment,” an employee of the cntre said yesterday.

The matter was adjourned until April 7.
