DNA security set to catch Ipswich would-be-thieves

THE latest in security technology is set to stop Ipswich's would-be thieves in their tracks using a new DNA marking system.

DNA Security Solutions recently visited Ipswich RSL Services Club to install DNA Guardian, a system which sprays criminals with a unique strand of synthetic DNA which cannot be washed off.

DNA Security Solutions state manager Jeffre Murray said the futuristic security spray could stay on a criminal's skin for up to two months and could be detected by police to link those breaking the law directly to the scene of a crime.

"It can't hurt you but gives police the forensic evidence coupled with CCTV to get a conviction," he said.

"What deters a criminal is being placed at a crime scene.

"The DNA strand is unique to this club and so far DNA Guardian has had phenomenal success."

DNA Guardian signs are clearly visible at every location where the security system is in place.

Ipswich RSL Services Club general manager Steve Edgar said he hoped the new security method would act as a deterrent to would-be criminals.

"If someone breaks in, the DNA spray will help identify them. It's designed to be a preventative measure to deter criminals from even trying," he said.

Mr Murray said Ipswich RSL Services Club now joined the likes of Goodna Services Club, Sherwood Services Club, the Prince Alfred Hotel and Yamanto Tavern, who also use the DNA Guardian security system.
