Diver missing off Bare Island reef

A SPEAR fisherman who disappeared in waters well known for strong currents, heavy boat traffic and great white sharks near Sydney on the weekend is still missing.

The 27-year-old was been diving off the Bare Island reef, near La Parouse, with his two friends when he failed to resurface on Sunday morning.

Rescue helicopters and police divers searched all of Monday but were unable to find the man.

Local fishermen told the Herald the reef was a fish haven but boat accidents and great white shark sightings were common.
