Young Clunes discus-thrower off to nationals

TALENTED all-rounder Reece Gallagher will put his skills to the test when he competes in the discus throw at the National All Schools Championships at Canberra in December.

The Clunes Public School student excels academically and also plays bass guitar in his spare time.

Reece has been a steady improver in discus having competed at state level on three previous occasions

He trains once a week with Lismore Little Athletics and also finished 18th at state for shot putt in the under-12 boys division.

"It all started three years ago when he threw the discus in school event for the first time," his mother Megan McKenzie said.

"We noticed how much further he could throw it than the other kids and it all went from there.

"He went to state that year with no training.

"He's pretty happy with himself at the moment and looking forward to Canberra.

"This has been a good year for him, he went to a creative arts camp for his music he plays baseball as well."
