Diggers ready for Beacom battle

THE annual Beacom Shield bowls tournament will be played at the Plateau Sports bowling greens at Alstonville on Wednesday, April 20.

The annual event, which dates back to 1937, is played between the Alstonville Men's Bowling Club and the Alstonville RSL Sub-Branch.

It is named after Robert Beacom, who was a keen bowler and member of the sub-branch and owned Fairfield Estate near the site of the Alstonville bowling club.

The Diggers have won the shield 10 times and the bowlers have won 19.

The sub-branch won last year.

Registration starts at 9am with the bowls at 10am.

Entry to play in the event is $15 per head.

All proceeds from the Beacom Shield will be donated to Legacy.
