Demolition gets serious

DEMOLITION work on the old Richmond Clinic building at Lismore Base Hospital is going full steam ahead and 'the big stuff' is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, the North Coast Area Health Service said.

The site will make way for the new cancer centre, due to open in 2010, with construction work expected to begin by the end of this year.

“The majority of the demolition has been completed and they are starting to prepare the site. There is a lot of excavation and earthworks to do in preparing the site before you can lay the first brick,” a spokesperson said.

The construction tender closes this month and will be announced next month.

The new cancer centre will include a radiotherapy facility, medical oncology and haematology services.
