Defeat is end of the road for Roar

BRISBANE Roar's first Asian Champions League campaign is over after the A-League champions fell 4-2 to FC Tokyo in the Japanese capital on Wednesday night.

In order to advance to the knockout round, Brisbane needed full points from its remaining two group stage clashes as well as a host of other results to go its way.

Despite a promising start, the Roar were outclassed in the rain by the hosts, who secured a spot in the knock-out stages.

The Roar, who lost to Tokyo 2-0 at home in their previous encounter, got off to a flying start in the fourth minute when a header by Besart Berisha hit the right post before the Albanian striker knocked in the rebound.

But only a minute later Hideto Takahashi lashed an equaliser in off the post from outside the box, and midway through the first half Kenta Mukuhara added a second.
