Dee captures smoky beauty in Photo of the Day

Smoke haze sunset at Casino. Dee Hartin

DEE Hartin took this beautifully moody photo of a sunset with smoke haze at Casino.

The picture was selected for Photo of the Day by readers on The Northern Star website and Facebook page after an exceptionally tight vote between Dee's image and a photo of a storm cloud sweeping in over Skennars Head, taken by Jane Jongebloed.

Dee is an exceptional talent. She is self-taught and started her journey in photography less than two years ago. She does a lot of weather photography and is very good at it - although, as you can see, her landscapes are quite special too.

Photo of the Day is intended to highlight the beauty of the Northern Rivers and the talent of the region's photographers. As well as appearing here, the Photo of the Day is published on Page 2 of our print edition, is used as the cover image on The Northern Star's Facebook page and forms part of an expanding gallery of images, which you can see below.

To submit an image for Photo of the Day, simply head to our Facebook page, and share it.

For tomorrow we have five very special images to choose from, including a lovely shot of Tucki Creek after a good deed, a misty morning picture that might be Roseanne Birmingham's best photo yet, a bright storm picture from the very talented Russell Riordan and two fabulous images from first-time Photo of the Day posters Fiona Gray and Jeanette Flanagan.

Have a look at the images in the poll below and pick your favourite. If you'd like to see bigger versions of the pictures, they're also in this gallery.
