Man in custody over woman's death
Friday, 2.30pm: A BOWRAVILLE man has been charged with murder after the discovery of a woman's body inside his home this morning.
Police allege Adam John Kennedy attacked and killed the 43-year-old woman, who is thought to have died from serious head injuries.
The Toormina woman was found deceased inside Kennedy's Kookaburra Ln home by officers on Friday at 3.15am.
The gruesome discovery came almost an hour after Kennedy was stoppped by police driving a blue Holden Commodore on the Pacific Highway near Taree.
Police said the vehicle came under notice after reports from other motorists it was being driven in an erratic manner.
Kennedy failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Taree Police Station, police said.
Subsequent enquiries led police to Kennedy's home where the woman's body was found.
Kennedy has been charged with murder, driving under the influence and outstanding drug charges.
He was refused bail to appear via audio visual link in Port Macquarie Local Court on Monday.
Friday, 8am: POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of a woman found at Bowraville this morning.
A man is in custody in Taree assisting police with their investigation and officers are guarding crime scenes at the Bowraville house where the woman was found and another house on Toormina Rd, where the woman is known to reside.
Police said highway patrol officers from the Manning/Great Lakes command stopped a blue Holden Commodore on the Pacific Highway near Taree about 2.25am after receiving several reports the vehicle was being driven erratically.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, was submitted to a breath test and returned a positive result.
He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station.
Following inquiries, police attended a house in Bowraville about 3:15am where they located a woman deceased inside the premises.
The woman, who is yet to be identified, is believed to be aged in her 40s and had suffered serious head injuries.
A crime scene was established at the house and will be examined by specialist forensic officers.
Mid North Coast detectives are continuing their investigations and a post mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
The 24-year-old man remains in custody at Taree Police Station where he is assisting police with their inquiries into the woman's death.
