Dealer-fit Performance Packs on sale for your Ford Mustang

AS THE nation's runaway best-selling sports car, the Ford Mustang is in danger of being just a bit too commonplace.

Fancy one that stands out a bit more? For the first time, Mustang Performance Packs are available through local Ford dealers for those wanting to enhance their 2016-17 pony cars with the likes of styling, handling and exhaust upgrades.

As one of the world's most customised vehicles, Ford is hoping modifiers will turn to their local dealers rather than after-market suppliers for their Mustang upgrades and is sweetening the deal by offering three-year/100,000km warranties on all Ford Performance bits fitted at the point of sale.

Existing owners score a 12-month 20,000km warranty on the factory-approved parts fitted.

On offer is a stainless steel 2.5-inch exhaust system fitted from the catalytic-converter back, which enhances the 5.0-litre V8 burble even further. You can choose four-inch exhaust tips in chrome or black, with the kit costing $3584.

A Track Handling Pack costs $4130 but brings lower coil springs and a raft of under-body changes to improve high-speed handling.

If street cool is more your thing, you could go the Street Lowering Kit for $1260, which drops the car an inch closer to the ground.

Finally, if you buy the "proper" manual gearbox Mustang, $805 will get you a short-throw gear shift kit (reducing throw by 19%), plus a Ford Performance gear knob.
