Dead baby whale washes up on Angels Beach Ballina

A DEAD baby whale is believed to have washed up near Flat Rock between Ballina and Lennox Head overnight.

Lifeguards and Ballina Shire Council rangers were notified about the mammal just before 1pm this afternoon.

The whale is understood to be between 4-5m long, according to Surf Life Saving Far North Coast duty officer Jimmy Keough, and located on the northern end of the beach, not far from Flat Rock Tent Park.

Mr Keough said judging by photos the whale's body was positioned near the high tide water mark, indicating it would have probably washed up during the night.

It's understood the council rangers have brought heavy machinery to the beach to remove the animal.
