De Jongh does the double with triples win

SOUTH Tweed bowler Scott De Jongh capped a big couple of weeks when he led his side to a win at the $10,000 Seaside Triples at the Evans Head Bowling Club on Sunday.

De Jongh shared $4800 prizemoney with South Tweed teammates Jesse Cottell and Clinton Bailey.

They won all five of their games over a busy two days of competition against 42 teams from across New South Wales and Queensland.

Bailey was also part of the winning team last year when he teamed up with Kurt Brown and Peter Leo.

The top five teams won all their games with the South Tweed team winning off the back of a superior margin.

The win came just one week after De Jongh won the $15,000 Ocean Shores Classic Fours.

His team included former world number one Kelvin Kerkow and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Brett Wilkie.

The Evans Head event had some star power of its own with former Australian champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Rob Parrella taking part.

"We would like to thank all the players, sponsors and umpires John Forshaw and Jim Maunder,” event organiser Steve Cselka said.

"Thanks to Eddy and Sue for the lovely Chinese, bar staff and the men's club. We hope to see you all next year.

"They love coming to Evans Head and we provide a good atmosphere and competition.

"Some of the other clubs in our district really struggle with tournaments but hopefully we never will.”

Cselka played in the tournament and was part of the top performing team from the Evans Head club.

Club stalwart John Lang fared the best on Saturday with two wins and a margin of plus 46.

He teamed with Ballina duo Kris Lehfeldt and Michael Anderson.

Anderson is a former NSW representative while Lehfeldt recently won the zone champion of club champions final.

There was a strong contingent of Queensland bowlers at the tournament with Brendan Egan, Kevin Higson and Dale Shillington bringing teams.

The event has been running for more than 10 years with Mid Richmond Plumbers coming on as a major sponsor last year.
