David Helfgott to perform at fundraiser
MUSICAL art lovers are in for a treat when pianist David Helfgott performs at the Tweed River Art Gallery on February 7.
Host and gallery director Susi Muddiman said the event, which will raise funds for the new Margaret Olley Art Centre, came about after she met Mr Helfgott's promoter Andrew McKinnon at an event in November.
"The Friends of the Gallery, Mr Helfgott, Mr McKinnon and I worked out a suitable arrangement which would allow Mr Helfgott to make himself available to attend the event," Ms Muddiman said.
To give people a flavour of what it takes to catalog, pack and prepare the contents of Miss Olley's famous home studio and to raise funds for the new centre, Ms Muddiman will take guests on a tour of the secret storage facility where Miss Olley's art is warehoused.
The tours will be offered on January 29 and February 5 and 26 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Guests will be taken to a secret location where Miss Olley's studio contents are concealed.
A third fundraising event will be held on February 15 when the gallery hosts the Margaret Olley exhibition, 'It's all about the light', featuring works from her national, state and regional gallery collections.
