Daniel serves up on the court

ALSTONVILLE tennis players Daniel Parry and Jackson Paesler won their divisions on both days of the Northern NSW Junior Development Squad competition at the weekend.

Daniel won the Under-16 boys' events at Ballina on Saturday and at Alstonville on Sunday against the best young players from Grafton to Tweed Heads.

He defeated Trafford McCory of Tweed Heads 6-0 in the final on Saturday and 6-1 in the final on Sunday, dropping only six games all weekend.

Daniel is coached by Paul Denning from the Alstonville Tennis Club and recently was included in the North Coast Academy tennis squad for 2012.

Jackson stood out in the Under-10 boys, with Cameron Ryan (Maclean) the runner-up both days. Sophie Johnston, of Goonellabah, won the under-16 girls events both days, with Micayla Nash (Ballina) the runner-up on Saturday.

Others to perform well at the weekend included Jamieson Nathan (Yamba), who won the under-12 boys both days, with Brody Luc (Tweed Heads) the runner-up both days; Amber Molloy (Tweed Heads), who won the under-14 girls both days, with Jessica Tickle (Alstonville) the runner-up both days; and Brodie Mullen (Tweed Heads), who won the under-14 boys on Sunday, with Jack Turner (Goonellabah) the runner-up.

The next Junior Development Squad tournament is at Tweed Heads on April 29, with the State finals in Sydney in October.
