Daniel breaks down barriers

INTRIGUING, confronting, moving and thought-provoking. These are just some of the adjectives that describe It's All About Me, a short dance work by multi-award-winning filmmaker, actor and dancer Daniel Monks.

The Sydney-based artist will bring his powerful performance to Federal tomorrow night at Jasper Corner with Dance Integrated Australia's creative director, Philip Channells.

Partially paralysed since the age of 11, the 25-year-old said working with the acclaimed choreographer had been "challenging, rewarding and fun".

"I've been stretched and pushed, not only conceptually, but also physically," said Daniel, who was awarded this year's Young Filmmaker of the Year at the West Australian Screen Awards.

"What I thought my body was capable of has been expanded and perceived limitations have been tested, which has been liberating and exciting."

It's All About Me starts tomorrow at 7pm at Jasper Corner in Federal (site of former Anglican Church). Entry is free and people are welcome to bring refreshments. To RSVP, email philipchannells@gmail.com.
