DA rejection wins council praise from residents

EWINGSDALE residents have welcomed last week’s Byron Shire Council decision to reject the Seniors Living and commercial precinct on Ewingsdale Rd.

Ewingsdale Progress Association president Colin McJannett said: “The site’s major access issues were highlighted in the traffic report which resulted in the RMS refusing to grant the development access from Ewingsdale Rd.

“This effectively moved access over a waterway to an already congested McGettigans Lane for a development which would more than double the population of Ewingsdale.

“No-one in the community is trying to deprive aged care but we have no guarantees that this is what is being planned.

“This is not about contributing to our community, it is about rezone and on-sell.”

The developer has now requested the Minister of Planning and Environment appoint an alternative planning authority.
