Challenge yourself and begin the cycle

IF you love cycling and you have a few buddies who love it too, consider registering for the Great Southern Crossing Charity Challenge.

Download the Strava or MayMyFitness apps on your smartphone, log your bike rides each day of November, and watch as you virtually progress from the start line in Brisbane to the finish line in Perth.

The challenge starts on November 1 and ends on November 28.

When you sign up for the Everydayhero-sponsored event, you can nominate a charity and fundraise for them.

The major charity for the Northern Rivers region is the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, however cyclists can pick from many other charities including Beyondblue, Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the Cancer Council, Lifehouse and Starlight Children's Foundation.

"It removes any physical barriers to participation," Everydayhero general manager John O'Donnell said.

"This challenge gives (cyclists) the ability to get a team of mates together, tap their networks for the causes that matter to them and cycle their hearts out in the comfort of their garage, their local bikeway or wherever they love to ride over 28 days."
