Cutting gives Bulls winning edge
THE Queensland Bulls have carried on the defence of their Ryobi Cup in style with a 26-run win over Victoria in a rematch of last season's final.
In a high-scoring affair in Sydney, the Bulls amassed 8-305 off their 50 overs, thanks in main to a magnificent 98 not out from 48 balls from Ben Cutting.
Earlier, Usman Khawaja had scored 62 before Queensland faltered but Cutting smashed six fours and nine sixes in his powerful knock to lead his side to a score which seemed well beyond it when Matthew Gale came in with the score 8-221.
But he and Cutting combined for an unbeaten 74-run partnership to put the Victorians under pressure.
Despite 50s from Rob Quiney and the in-form Cameron White, the Bulls held on for their second win from as many games.
In yesterday's other game, an unbeaten 73 from captain Steve Smith helped NSW beat WA by five wickets.
Smith put on an unbeaten 85 sixth-wicket stand with Sean Abbott to chase down the Warriors' 8-233 to leave the West Australians winless from their two games.
