Cuskelly eases into main draw

SQUASH player Ryan Cuskelly was handed an easy path into the main draw of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur when his opponent, Scotsman Alan Clyne, was forced to withdraw with an injury.

Cuskelly was leading 7-4 in the first game.

It meant Cuskelly, originally from Evans Head, would be relatively fresh for his first-round clash with sixth-seeded Pakistani Aamir Atlas Khan.

However, fellow Australian Donna Urquhart, of Yamba, failed in her bid to join Cuskelly in the main draw when she lost to former world No 4 Tania Bailey of England.

Bailey, who will captain the England squash team at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, is on the comeback trail after injury and took advantage of an out-of-sorts Urquhart to win 11-6 11-5 11-5.

Cameron Pilley, also from Yamba, will take on Pakistani qualifier Farhan Mehboob in the first round.
