Cusack defends ‘mate’ memo
A WEEK after an internal "anti-mate" health memo made headlines around the world, the wife of Northern Rivers Local Health District (LHD) CEO Chris Crawford has used her newspaper column to defend her husband.
NSW Liberal MP Catherine Cusack, who is married to Mr Crawford, wrote in The Sunday Telegraph on the weekend that the memo to refrain from calling patients "darling", "love" and "mate" had not been written by Chris but a senior nurse manager, acting in response to a patient complaint.
Ms Cusack said Chris only learned of it when media inquiries flooded in but regardless had defended his staff.
"His role is to back his staff, to show loyalty, to accept blame if things have gone wrong, and take steps to correct mistakes," Ms Cusack wrote.
The memo first published in The Northern Star on Wednesday, made news around Australia and in the UK and India.
