Cup-day event is a fundraiser

MELBOURNE Cup Day is gallopingtowards us at a great pace and the Rod n Reel Hotel at Woodburn is making it a worthwhile day, regardless of whether your horse comes first or tails the field.

Co-owner Naomi Simpson said the day would be a charity fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

"(It is) a charity that is very close to my heart as my mum, who lives locally, is currently undergoing treatment for bone cancer," she said. "We are having a themed Melbourne Cup Day inspired by the recent release of the Kath and Kim movie.

"The day will involve lots of fun games, raffles, sweeps and best-dressed prizes."

Ms Simpson said cancer had affected the local community quite directly in recent times, with a recent fundraiser helping a local young mum.

So get your best Kath and Kim outfits on, or in the case of the blokes, your best Kel and Brett suits, and join in on November 6. The cost is $40pp and includes a glass of bubbly and a two-course lunch. There will also be musical entertainment and prizes. $5 of each ticket goes towards the Cancer Council. Bookings essential 6682 2406.
