Tweed preps for races

RACING will return to Murwillumbah on Melbourne Cup day which, along with the Murwillumbah Cup and Anzac Day, is one of the biggest meetings on the Tweed River Jockey Club calendar.

"It just gets bigger and bigger every year," club secretary-manager Brian Charman said.

The six-event program on Tuesday, November 3, will include the Tweed River Open Hcp (1530m) and the Jason Birney Memorial Maiden Plate (1530m).

Nominations will close at 11am next Wednesday.

Murwillumbah last raced on August 3, allowing the club to prepare the racing surface for its spring and summer programs.

The Murwillumbah Cup carnival was held in June with locally trained galloper Bernie of Babylon taking out the race this year.
