CSG exclusion zones not enough: Elliot
A TWO kilometre CSG exclusion zone around residential and industry areas fails to account for the concerns of Northern Rivers residents, Richmond MP Justine Elliot has said.
Ms Elliot has this afternoon slammed the State Government's announcement of the exclusion zones, saying "it just shows the Nationals can not stand up for our community.
The Government announced the exclusion zones this morning as an extra safeguard against coal seam gas drilling. Metgasco has said the new safeguards will impact on its operations around Casino and Grafton, but have declined to say how they would be affected.
Responding to a question from Lismore MP Thomas George, Premier Barry O'Farrell has this afternoon told the NSW Parliament residential areas at Grafton and Casino would be safeguarded from coal seam gas drilling.
However, Mr O'Farrell also conceded: "I can't turn back the clock on projects which have already been approved."
"Our community's view is clear," Ms Elliot said in a statement responding to the exclusion zones.
"We want a CSG Free North Coast and the National Party MPs have failed to get that because they are unwilling or unable to represent locals."
