Cryon sprouts wings in the mud
A WET track and gear change helped six-year-old Cryon to a win at the Ballina Jockey Club TAB meeting yesterday.
Cryon ($11) took out the $15, 000 benchmark 65 handicap (1250m) in a photo finish ahead of Destiny's Lass ($4.60 favourite) and Court Success ($8)
It has now won its last two starts at Ballina with all his best form on rain-affected tracks.
The horse is from the stable of Danny and his son Daniel Bowen who are now based out of Lismore after moving from Eltham.
They decided on a gear change after the horse had a disappointing run over 1106m in Grafton last month.
"He had been in good form but he definitely failed last start," Daniel Bowen said.
"I tried a gear change today to try and get him to settle.
"He has been a bit reluctant to settle once you get him over the 1000m.
"You never change something when they're winning so I thought after last start we'd try this and it worked."
Cryon has now recorded 10 wins and 12 placings from 53 starts.
Danny Bowen has picked the races carefully for Cryon with two of its recent wins at non-TAB meetings on the Northern Rivers before two at Ballina TAB meetings.
