Cruel twist for family with relatives on MH370 and MH17

10.45am: IN a tragic coincidence, the Biloela family who lost a son and daughter-in-law in the first Malaysia Airlines tragedy had loved ones on downed flight MH17.

Irene and George Burrows' son Rodney and his wife Mary were on board flight MH370, which vanished on March 8 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Yesterday, they learned their son-in-law's daughter and husband were passengers on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over separatist-controlled eastern Ukraine.

Marie and Albert Rizk, from Sunbury near Melbourne, were on their way home after spending a month long holiday in Europe. Media outlets yesterday reported the couple were on flight MH17 because they had missed an earlier flight.

The Burrows family declined to comment on this latest tragedy yesterday.

Irene spoke to The Morning Bulletin just days ago about how the family was still desperately waiting for a clue on the fate of MH370.

"Just some clue as to what happened would be a consolation," she said.

"The family is coping as best they can... but everyone has good, and bad, days."

Meanwhile, their son Hervey Bay's Dr Paul Burrows (Rodney's brother), was overseas and could not be reached for comment yesterday

5.30pm: IN a cruel coincidence, the Biloela family who lost a son and daughter-in-law in the first Malaysia Airlines tragedy had relatives on the downed flight MH17.

The Melbourne couple, related to the Burrows family through marriage, were among 28 Australians who died on the flight, which crashed in Ukraine.

Rodney and Mary Burrows were on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared from radars on March 8.

The Burrows family declined to comment this afternoon.
