Crocs get the drop on Breakers
THE New Zealand Breakers have to defend their iiNet NBL Championship the hard way after dropping their semi-final home opener 99-82 to the Townsville Crocodiles in Auckland on Friday.
The Crocs, who had not beaten their rivals all season, stunned the title favourites with a momentum-changing three-point play on half-time and a 31-18 third period.
Guard Peter Crawford led charge for the visitors with 10 of his game-high 26 points in that crucial third-quarter outburst. American Eddie Gill compiled 21 points in support, while forward Tom Abercrombie scored 20 for the Breakers.
Townsville coach Paul Woolpert said his team executed the game plan as well as possible.
"We talked about the obvious things, like limiting them to one shot. They're a great offensive rebounding team," he said.
