Victory stays with Bears captain

WHEN the Ballina Bears won the LJ Hooker League cricket grand final last season by a single wicket, captain Shane Jacobs was determined to carry the memory with him.

Now, Jacobs has done just that, putting the photograph of the moment taken by The Northern Star onto his credit card.

“It was a special moment for our team and something you never forget,” he said.

“When I found I was able to get a photo put onto my credit card, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but something I wanted to do.

“It was lucky The Northern Star captured that moment.”

Putting a grand final picture on his card is proving a talking point for the self-admitted cricket tragic, who said he gets ‘a few people saying stuff’ about it.

“People ask about the game, and my mates thought it was a good idea,” he said.

“We’d put a lot of work into winning that cricket competition.”

While the rest of the Bears were impressed they had appeared on Jacobs’ card, he said his wife ‘wasn’t surprised at all’.

“The team all loved it, and a couple of them wanted to do the same,” he said.

“My wife didn’t mind it. I might have to get a picture of her and the kids on there next though.”
