CQ Capras to tackle Blackhawks

THE Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras will be without experienced campaigners Adam Henry and Jack Kavanagh when they meet the Townsville Blackhawks this weekend.

Coach Kim Williams has named an 18-man squad for the Round 20 Intrust Super Cup match, which will be played in Mount Isa as part of the Queensland Rugby League's Country Week.

He said Henry continued to battle a niggling knee injury and workhorse Kavanagh was "due for a rest".

Their absence will see teenager Jake Ainsworth get his third start for the Capras this season and Aleki Falepaini move to the second row.

Halfback Matt Minto is expected to play after being ruled out with injury last weekend and Frenchman Charles Bouzinac will start at hooker, with Josh Mitchell coming off the bench.

Williams said there were a few "sore and sorry bodies" in the Capras ranks after their disappointing loss to the Tweed Heads Seagulls in testing conditions at Browne Park on Sunday.

The defeat sees the Capras languishing in second last on the ISC ladder, something Williams wants to see change in the closing rounds of the competition.

"We have a four-game run after the bye and three of them are at home with one of those being in Gladstone," he said.

"There's good opportunity there to finish strongly and it's not mathematically impossible to make the top six but for us our focus is purely on finishing well.

"We'd be disappointed if we finish in the bottom two where we are at the moment. I think we've played better than that and deserve better than that and the players certainly feel that way.

"Although it's been a significant improvement on last year, we haven't met the majority of our goals so that's something to really focus on for the last six weeks of the competition."

Williams believes the Capras are well placed to beat the Blackhawks, who have suffered three losses in their past five matches.

"It's a neutral venue and we're going to go in with some confidence after a pretty good performance against them last time," he said.
