Cowboys star stuns with top try at Nines
RUGBY LEAGUE: North Queensland Cowboys flier Gideon Gela-Mosby provided the highlight of the two-day Auckland Nines tournament, scoring a sensational try against the Melbourne Storm.
The Nines are the perfect showcase of the freakish talents of rugby league's stars and this year has been no exception.
There's been a host of impressive tries in the 2017 tournament but Gela-Mosby will steal the headlines for his effort against the Storm.
Michael Morgan put in a crossfield kick that found the winger, who was unable to catch it cleanly.
Gela-Mosby, though, had the presence of mind to throw a foot at the ball as it slipped from his grasp, keeping it alive.
The winger then regained his feet to outpace two Melbourne Storm players to the ball, touching down for the opening try of the match.
Fox Sports commentator Andrew Voss couldn't hide his excitement at the feat, saying it was perhaps the best the game has ever seen.
"That is amazing," Voss said.
"Maybe the best play we've ever seen at the Nines. It's a circus trick, not a rugby league play."
Social media was also astounded at the amazing talent shown by Gela-Mosby, as many claimed it to be the best try they've seen at the Nines event.
It wasn't the first time that the Cowboys winger has featured on the highlight reel at the Eden Park tournament.
Gela-Mosby stole the show on day one, pulling off a "superman" try, getting airborne to slam the ball down just inside the corner post, as he plunged over the touchline.
Gela-Mosby finished with six tries for the tournament and was a large part of the Cowboys' run to the quarter-finals.
Unfortunately that was as far as the former Nines champions got, as they were stunned by the Melbourne Storm in the last eight.
Despite the exit, the Cowboys showcased the young talent at their disposal ahead of the 2017 NRL season, as Gela-Mosby and Kalyn Ponga were among the star players of the tournament.
