Players not pleased as cricket match washed out

POTTSVILLE players were not pleased after their game against Lennox Head was washed out in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket on Saturday.

It was washed out after 10.4 overs when the wicket square was deemed too wet to play on at Megan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.

"They had the wrong sized covers on; the proper ones were there but I think they had holes in them.

"It's disappointing because you turn up to play and expect clubs to make sure the game happens.

"I'm not sure if everything that could have been done was done, and we're disappointed.

"But that's life, I suppose."

Lennox Head coach Paul Everingham said there was nothing more that could have been done.

"The normal covers were put on Thursday and the wicket was covered," Everingham said.

"They bowled about 10 overs and the rain came; nothing we can do about that. The captains disagreed but the umpires handled it well.

"We all wanted to play and I'm surprised we got on for as long as we did with the weather."

All other games were also affected by rain and the overs reduced accordingly.

Ballina Bears had their first win of the season in convincing fashion against Alstonville in a match reduced to 24 overs a side at Hill Park Oval, Wollongbar.

All-rounder Lee Pittavino top-scored for Bears with 45 not out as they finished on 6-157.

The need for quick runs made it tough for Alstonville and they were bowled out for 64 in 18 overs.

Bears all-rounder Sam Adams and English recruit Jonny Phelps did the damage with the ball, taking three wickets each.

Marist Brothers had a hard-fought 12-run win over Casino at Oakes Oval. Top-scorers were Ashely Simes (93) for Brothers and Sam Dietrich (75) for the Cavs.

Cudgen had a five-wicket win over Tintenbar-East Ballina at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina

The 'Bar fought its way to 115 after slumping to 6-40 in the 31-overs-a-side match.

All-rounder Caleb Ziebell took 4-9 and Cudgen finished on 5-121.
