Coutts Crossing man refused bail on child sex charges

A COUTTS Crossing man charged with multiple sex offences, including one count of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10, will remain in custody ahead of his next expected court appearance next year.

The 23-year-old was scheduled to appear at Grafton Local Court via audio-visual link today, but no further application for bail was made and it was formally refused by the magistrate.

The accused first appeared in court on Friday, after a search warrant was executed by State Crime Command officers at a property on Lakkari St in Coutts Crossing on Wednesday morning, as part of an ongoing investigation.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to Grafton Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of indecent assault of a person under 16, one count of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10, and two counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged between 10 and 14.

It is further alleged that during the search police officers discovered the man was cultivating cannabis at the house, and he has also been charged with possession and cultivation of a prohibited drug.

The case has been adjourned to Grafton Local Court on February 1, 2016.
