Court: Man tells daughter he wants to chop up her mum

A TWEED coast man told his daughter he was going to track down her mother, chop her up and kill her and her new boyfriend too, in one of a host of domestic violence cases to come before Tweed Heads Local Court this week post Christmas.

Later that same night the daughter and wife saw the man drive slowly past and feared he was going to make good on his threat.

The man, who pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order, told Magistrate Dakin that learning of his ex-wife's new relationship sparked his anger, but not because he was jealous.

The father of two said he feared his former wife was neglecting his teenager daughter who has mental health issues.

He said he had gone to see his daughter not to carry out his threat but to apologise for the threats he made over the phone as he knew he had gone too far.

"It's a strange way of expressing concern about someone you care about," the magistrate said about the threat.

It's an example of "contradictory behaviour", he said.

He placed the man on a two-year good behaviour bond.

In another case a man was placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to assaulting his partner on December 20.

The man said he was affected by anger and alcohol and he and his partner were now undergoing marriage counselling.

Another man has pleaded not guilty to assaulting his partner on Boxing Day.

She was granted a protective order.
