Course for koala friends

FRIENDS of the Koala will run a basic training course next month for people who want to help the Northern Rivers region's koala population.

Friends president Lorraine Vass said topics would include rescue techniques, basic koala assessment and handling, transportation, koala leaf collection, tree identification and the care of koalas in the Friends of the Koala Care Centre.

"We have an on-going need to train koala rescuers, carers, advocates, and educators," Ms Vass said.

"Directly or indirectly, each and every one of us can do something to assist the survival of our precious koalas.

"Friends of the Koala is the perfect organisational framework for those people who want to help but are not sure how they can contribute."

The training session will be held at Lismore's koala care centre on February 11.

Bookings are essential. For more information and to register phone 6622 1233, email info@friendsofthekoala.org or visit www.friendsofthekoala.org
