Couple tried over alleged abduction

A COUPLE who allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a 23-year-old Casino women in January this year will be tried in the District Court at Grafton next month.

Robert Clarence Child, 44, of Alumy Creek, and Caran Louise Everson, 42, of Mudgee, will face charges arising from the abduction and assault of the woman at Casino on January 30.

They appeared in the Grafton Local Court yesterday, where Magistrate Kim Pogson was satisfied the couple should face a District Court trial on August 4.

Child is facing six charges of detaining a person in company with intent to obtain advantage; two counts of aggravated sexual assault in company; and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Everson faces five charges of detaining a person in company with intent to obtain advantage; and three counts of aggravated sexual assault in company.

Yesterday the court heard that fresh charges of detaining a person in company with intent to obtain advantage occasioning actual bodily harm had been brought against the couple over the same alleged incident.
