Couple sells cafe to start guided tours around Italy
SINCE Bryan and Nevis King fell in love on a European tour in 1986, they have wanted to share the beauty of travel with other people.
Last year the Buderim couple took a risk and sold their Cafe Buderim business so they could start a personalised tour guide company in Lake Garda in Italy.
The region is home to Nevis's family and a place the couple know well.
"When I turned 50 I decided to go back to Italy and go back to my origins," Nevis said.
"I vowed to myself then that I'd return every year. I hadn't been there for 17 years.
"When I'd come home I'd talk to people in the cafe about Lake Garda and find people would ask when I was going back so they could be around the region at the same time, and I would end up playing tour guide."
Nevis, 54, met Bryan, 59, on a coach tour where he was the bus driver and guide.
When Nevis returned from another Lake Garda trip last year wanting to start tours, Bryan said she should give the venture a go - and he would do it with her.
The couple will launch Lake Garda Tours this year, offering five- and eight-day tours with small groups of six, from June to September.
"I get so much pleasure in seeing people experience Lake Garda and I love it," Nevis said.
"We really don't feel like we're working."
Lake Garda, the largest Italian lake, is located about halfway between Brescia and Verona in the country's north.
Nevis said some of the tour experiences of the region include a trip to a medieval village with a population of seven people, dinner in a castle, trips around the lake, and bushwalking up mountains.
Bryan and Nevis will hold an information night at the Buderim Craft Cottage at 6pm on January 15 to give people an insight into their tours.
Anyone is welcome to attend the free event.
