Couple missing after visiting Kingscliff have been found

UPDATE: An elderly couple reported missing after travelling from Northern New South Wales overnight has been located safe and well in Windaroo a short time ago.

EARLIER: POLICE have appealed for help in finding an elderly couple who failed to return home from a day trip to Kingscliff.

Dale and Cavell Lawlor, both 78, visited a relative in Kingscliff yesterday but the couple have not made contact with friends or family since leaving there about 6pm last night.

Centenary police Senior Sergeant Peter Florey told ABC Radio the couple did not arrive at their daughter's home in Durack, on the south-western outskirts of Brisbane, as they had intended.

"They were due back in Brisbane about 8pm and they just haven't come home," Snr Sgt Florey said.

"We have grave concerns for them.

"Both of them have medical conditions that require medication and they've left their medication at their daughter's home in Brisbane."

The Lawlors were travelling in a red-coloured Toyota RAV4 with Queensland registration 545 VQW.

They do not have a phone or GPS but it's understood they may have been making their way home via the M1 and M7 motorways.

Snr Sgt Florey said is wasn't clear how far they had travelled, or even if they had left NSW.

Police were making inquiries with medical facilities in Northern NSW and South East Queensland, as well as examining CCTV footage from major highways in the region.

He said Mr Lawlor was a dual American-Canadian national and his wife a dual Australian-American national who may have been unfamiliar with their surroundings.

"Any information in relation to this couple would be useful to police and it doesn't matter what time they saw them or where they saw them," Snr Sgt Florey said.

Mr Lawlor is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 178 centimetres tall with a slim build and short grey hair. He may have been wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved shirt.

Mrs Lawlor is described as Caucasian in appearance and of a slim build with short grey hair. She was believed to be wearing blue trousers and a blue blouse, as pictured.

Anyone who has seen the Lawlors or their vehicle is urged to contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
