TROY Cassar-Daley couldn't get enough of the reef fish and chips at the Northern Beaches Bowls Club yesterday afternoon.

"Northern Beaches Bowls Club has always been one of my favourite places to play," he said.

"I went out for lunch there today... I wanted to have a look at the room and feel the energy there.

"It is a pretty wild place.

"When you have a decent band and it is full of people it has a great atmosphere and I was reminded of that today, so I am glad to be coming back."

While Cassar-Daley was only in Mackay for a few hours yesterday he took the time to speak about his latest album Home and his upcoming concert at the bowls club on Friday, May 11.

His new album will be released on March 2 through Liberation Music.

"To be able to come to the town personally, which you don't get to do very often, is a bit of luxury for me," he said.

Cassar-Daley said he had first come to Mackay in 1990 and has returned every couple of years.

"It is always a great place to visit. I remember coming to visit Graeme Connors up here.

"I was in Mackay, I think it was for a corporate gig, and Graeme had taken me fishing and we couldn't start the (boat) motor to come back.

"And I remember Graeme saying, 'I am not joking, this is not starting'.

"I thought he was having me on.

"By the 10th go it went again."

Mr Cassar-Daley said in the years he has visited the region he had seen many changes.

"I think what the mining sector has brought to the area is positive for people and employment.

"We all want a job to call our own and be proud of - and I have seen that growth.

"I like the fact that Mackay still feels like a community.

"And community isn't just where you live - it is what you feel."
