Countback decides winners at golf competition

STEVE Garbutt and Ray Lewis are celebrating after hanging on for a nail-biting win in the Lismore Workers Golf Club competition on Saturday.

The pair edged out Reece Smith and Scott McNamara on countback after they had finished level on 48 points in the two ball best ball stableford tournament.

Garry Barnett took top honours in the individual section.

It was a busy day of action at the Barham St Club with almost 170 players teeing off.

Meanwhile, promising young guns Daniel Martin (Ballina) and Jack Harlen-Robertson, of Lismore, are continuing to star on this year's Northern Rivers District Junior Golf Association circuit.

The pair led the way in the boys cadet (net) and boys cadet gross divisions on this year's schedule.

The circuit continues this coming Sunday at Ocean Shores.
