Council works to preserve cultural gem

A LONG-standing celebration of indigenous culture is on the agenda of the Ballina Shire Council Aboriginal Committee Meeting.

Funding opportunities will be discussed at this afternoon's meeting to ensure the longevity of the annual Boomerang Festival.

The Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils has recently asked Ballina Shire Council to collaborate with the Aboriginal community and liaison committees workshop ideas to improve the cultural event.

It comes in light of a fundraising initiative held yesterday at the Lennox Head Cultural and Community Centre for the event.

Project updates regarding Angel's Beach Dr and repairs to the Cabbage Tree Island Bridge will also be presented at the meeting.

A portion of the meeting will allow for committee members to present specific ideas about how the council could work with indigenous communities to strengthen their relations.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 9.
