Cop faces court after allegedly running over boy, 13

A POLICE officer has fronted court over an incident between a pocket motorbike and a car at Nambour earlier this month.

Anthony Dark has been suspended with pay since the incident on August 1.

He appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday on a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The 44-year-old constable sought an adjournment to allow time for his legal representatives to speak further to police prosecutions about the matter.

The incident which sparked the charge was not discussed in court yesterday.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy set the matter down for mention again on September 10.

The incident has been the subject of an investigation involving the Ethical Standards Command.

The officer was off duty at the time of the Kerns Ct crash, which a bystander captured on video.

The video, which has been broadcast by the media, shows contact between a car and motorbike in a driveway.

A 13-year-old boy who was allegedly riding the motorbike was not injured.

Police media issued a press release the following day saying "in keeping with a commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have an undertaking to inform the public when an officer faces criminal charges".

The release said "this does not mean the allegations against the officer have been substantiated".
