Cop chase in Ballina backyards

A BALLINA man is behind bars after leading police on an hour-long chase through the backyards of Ballina.

The man fled on foot when police from Richmond Target Action Group, highway patrol, detectives and general duties officers converged on Russell Street at Ballina to arrest the man on weapons charges.

Police said the man fled through the backyards of homes around the area, leaping fences to go from yard to yard, and was eventually found hiding in a garden at Marsh Avenue.

The man was charged with armed with intent, common assault, intimidation, and the revocation of a parole warrant.

Police said they seized a “blunt instrument” in the arrest.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Ballina Court this month.
