Cool hand Luke on the greens

LUKE JONES of Evans River K-12 School has secured gold at the NSW Combined High Schools (NSW CHS) lawn bowls championships in Sydney as one of the top eight school lawn bowlers between Taree and Queensland.

Following his success at regional level, the 12-year-old travelled to St Johns Park as part of the North Coast CHS team.

Luke said he began playing bowls two or three years ago after his pop took him to the local club.

“He took me to the local bowling club and I liked it,” Luke said.

“Then this year I played for the school and was selected to go to Sydney. That was the best!”

Joining him in Sydney was 16-year-old Reece Wilson from Southern Cross K-12 School in Ballina.

Reece chose lawn bowls over football for sport.

He has been a member of the Ballina No 1 pennants side, and had represented in CHS at district and zone before going to State.

North Coast defeated Sydney North 50-8, Western 34-15, Sydney East 46-8, Sydney West 23-21 and Hunter 35-25 before accounting for South Coast 26-23 in the final.
