CONVICTED murder Adam Bowhay who escaped while on work release from Cooma Correctional Centre earlier this week has been arrested.

The 34-year-old, who was serving a 23-year sentence for the murder of Casino man Steven Jarvis, was spotted by a member of the public south of Bredbo, about 11.30am today.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command were alerted to Bowhay's whereabouts and quickly attended the scene.

Bowhay was arrested without incident and is now being taken to Cooma Police Station.

It's expected he'll be charged later today, police said in a statement.
