My Kitchen Rules contestants hoping to feel the love

HERVEY Bay's My Kitchen Rules contestants Dan and Steph Mulheron hope the spirit of St Valentine plays a role on Thursday night.

The couple will feature as the host team on the Channel Seven blockbuster as they serve up a sample of their best dishes and attempt to progress further in the competition.

Speaking from their Hervey Bay home ahead onThurday's episode, the husband-and-wife team said they had no idea when filming that they were due to appear on screens on Valentine's Day.

But despite that fact, the two said they were hopeful popular judges Manu and Pete, along with the other contestants, felt the love when it came time to score.

"We had no idea until late last week that it was going to air on Valentine's Day," Steph said.

"But I'm sure it will be themed a little that way."

The couple, who cooked sausages to help out in Bundaberg after the recent floods, said they had been overwhelmed by the level of support they had received since being selected for MRK.

They said their only ambition had been to do Queensland and Hervey Bay proud, and admitted the opportunity came at a difficult period in their lives.

"About this time, last year Dan and I went through the IVF process to try and have a baby and it was unsuccessful," Steph said.

"Then the night of the unsuccessful result we saw the advertisement on television asking for people for the next series. We just looked at each other and said, 'let try something new'."
