Conference all about some macadamia nuts

EVERYONE will be going a little bit nuts in Lismore from today until Friday.

The reason: the 2014 Australian Macadamia Society conference.

More than 300 growers, processors, marketers and researchers from around the world will be in town for the 40th anniversary event at Lismore City Hall and on leading macadamia farms throughout the Northern Rivers.

"We're celebrating our Australian macadamia industry, its number one place on the world stage and the growers and industry people who have contributed to this success," said society CEO Jolyon Burnett.

"Australia leads the world in production and export, accounting for 30% of the world's crop. We're also world leaders in research and development, biological control and conservation."

Mr Jolyon said the macadamia industry is worth more than $200 million annually and employs thousands of people.

Key note speakers will include 2013 Australian Horticultural Grower of the Year.
