Conditions ideal for severe storms today
WEATHER conditions today are ideal for the formation of severe thunderstorms and possibly super cells according to North Coast Storm Chasers.
Founder Antonio Parancin studied weather models and compared to the last few days he said local severe storms were likely.
"This is because of a low pressure trough that is ever so slowly moving east," he said.
This combined with relatively sunny skies compared with the last few days will allow for lots of atmospheric heating.
"Heaps of instability will exist anywhere east of the ranges, especially on the coast," Mr Parancin said.
"This means as storms move east-north-east they will intensify and possibly further develop into a super cell.
"Storms will develop a lot faster and closer to home today mainly due to the trough being so close to the coast and sunny skies.
"Today will be another wait and see until we know exactly where and when big storms might occur, however I would advise that you make your preparations early to avoid having to rush later."
Mr Parancin said storms will be moving fast to the east-north-east and super cells might veer from the north-east or south-east.
