Company wipes the floor with award
WHEN Grant Kenny and his father created PacPlus Wholesalers in 1999, they never realised what a success it would become.
The Rockhampton company, which sells food and general packaging, along with cleaning and cooking products, were last week awarded the National Dealer of the Year after achieving growth of 270% with chemical manufacturer True Blue Chemicals.
The award from the Sydney-based industrial and commercial chemical manufacturer came as a shock to Grant, particularly when he considered his competitors.
He said PacPlus faced off against other larger businesses in capital cities.
"I was blown away altogether," Grant said.
"We're just a little regional branch."
Grant said this financial year was one of their best.
"This financial year we've definitely had good growth," he said.
"We definitely had a downturn a few years ago.
"But we've never gone backwards."
Grant said there had been a surge in sales to mining hotspots, particularly in Gladstone, Emerald, Moranbah and Blackwater.
PacPlus has sold much of their cleaning chemicals and toilet paper to busy motels, pubs and clubs in the western areas and Gladstone.
