Community invited to meet Minister

NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner is having a busy day on the Northern Rivers today, travelling from Tweed Heads to Casino before attending a community meeting tonight at Goonellabah.

Starting at the Tweed Hospital this morning, Ms Skinner is expected to visit the site of the planned Byron Shire Hospital at Ewingsdale, the Ballina Rehabilitation Unit, and Casino Hospital.

While visiting the Lismore Base Hospital at Lismore, Ms Skinner is expected to announce a $2.95 million upgrade to the emergency department, allowing a 40% increase in floor space and an extra seven beds to tide the department over until a new facility is completed in 2016.

The tour will be capped off with the Northern NSW Local Health District board's annual community meeting at Invercauld House from 5pm.

The board describes the meeting as "an opportunity for the community to hear about the activities and achievements that have occurred over the past year and to hear of the plans for the upcoming year".

The gathering will start with refreshments from 5pm with the meeting proper starting from 5.30pm.
